Australia’s Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Simon Stuart and New Zealand’s Chief of Army, Major General Rose King are jointly visiting Timor-Leste from 13 to 14 June 2025.
The two Chiefs of Army will meet with senior Ministry of Defence and Falintil-Forças de Defesa de Timor-Leste (F-FDTL) members to discuss shared security priorities and longstanding partnership and cooperation, including ways to strengthen the F-FDTL.
The two Chiefs will also meet with Australian Defence Cooperation Program and New Zealand Mutual Assistance Programme personnel, and visit the locations of Australian and New Zealand activities, including Metinaro Base.
Together the two Chiefs will lay a wreath at the New Zealand Embassy Kiwi Stone to honour those who have served and fallen in Timor-Leste.
“Timor-Leste is an important security partner to both Australia and New Zealand. Our shared history and commitment to a peaceful, stable region is at the core of our growing friendship. I look forward to reconnecting with old friends,” said Lieutenant General Stuart.
“New Zealand has been a steadfast supporter of Timor-Leste since independence. This visit is another opportunity to further New Zealand and Australia’s deep partnership with the country. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Timor-Leste and Australia to ensure a secure and stable region,” said Major General King.
The two Chiefs will also travel to Fiji together on their way to Timor-Leste. The visit highlights the strength of the Australian and New Zealand alliance, and our joint commitment to working with our regional neighbours.
