18 December 2014
The HMAS Huon visited Dili, Timor-Leste from 11-15 Dec 2014 to conduct maritime training with the Naval Component of the Timor-Leste Defence Force (F-FDTL) as part of the ongoing close bilateral defence relationship between the two countries.
Under the auspices of the Defence Cooperation Program, HMAS Huon’s crew took 13 members of the F-FDTL to share expertise in seamanship, diving, damage control, firefighting and safety equipment maintenance, and engineering training skills at Dili Port, Timor-Leste.
The Defence Cooperation Program has been operating in Timor-Leste since early 2001, as part of broader regional cooperation activities in the Pacific region.
The program aims to build capacity within the F-FDTL and Secretariat of State for Defence to enable the nation independently to provide for its security needs.
The Royal Australian Navy is dedicated to working closely with Australia’s partner nations in the interests of maritime security to ensure a safe, peaceful and prosperous region.
