Volunteers in Timor-Leste
Mary Waterford is in Timor-Leste as an Australian Volunteer supported by the Australian Government. During his recent visit to Timor-Leste, the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove awarded Mary the Member of the Order Australia for her significant service to the community as an advocate for equity, human rights and social justice. Mary was a founding member of the Blue Mountains East Timor Friendship Committee. She has just started as a volunteer with Rede Feto, the national umbrella organisation for 24 women’s organisations in Timor-Leste. Mary will help Rede Feto strengthen its external partnerships, the Advocacy Unit and Member organisations. Mary is part of the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative.
